what ive been getting into: Gilardini

i saw some posts on moped army about turning a gila cylinder into a polini. So with a polini cylinder by my side, i did pretty much that. here are pics of my process and finish product.

Proper protection for grind o rama was necessary. i still have peices of aluminum stuck in my skin 3 weeks later.

The first cutting i did was on the piston. I taped off the general size of the oval that i wanted.

next i cut at the cylinder skirt and made those polini baby upper transfer holes. I matched them to the width of the holes that i cut into the piston. it was much more scientific than it looks in the pics.
Next I cut into the cylinder to make the 6th and 7th transfers

then i went at the case to polinify it by extending those baby transfers back to the crank area. I slipped through in one spot but it jb welded up nicely.
lil bit of jb weld up in the spot
case closed up with crank inside. notice the e50 kick start clutch cover. not this engine. that one has the boring old 64cc polini.

here is a fancy picture showing the new transfers

i did all this as study breaks during finals week. this is what my desk looked like after i was done

all in all id guess I spent 6 or so hours of cutting, being very careful. i did the whole thing with my dremel.  I ended up enlarging the main transfers and the exhaust port, but thats boring stuff.
I noticed significant power increase all across the boards especially in the low end and i would recommend this to anyone willing to try it out.
feel free to ask me any questions about the process.
